Formerly known as SFM Africa, the ACDG Group has launched its development programs in southern Gabon, specifically in Mayumba, in the Nyanga province. The group, which has over 30 years of experience in developing high-end ecotourism in Africa, has secured long-term land use rights to consolidate and sustainably develop 731,000 hectares of forests and savannah in the Nyanga province of southern Gabon. <\/p>\n

The creation and development of businesses in forestry, agriculture, and ecotourism, supported by regional infrastructure, is detailed in the Grande Mayumba Sustainable Development Plan, in accordance with Gabonese law on sustainable development. One-third of the project area is designated as a protected conservation zone to preserve the unique biodiversity of ecosystems located along the coast, in estuaries, in the mountains, and in the savanna. Over the next few years, more than US$160 million will be invested in Grande Mayumba's commercial activities and infrastructure, creating approximately 2,400 new jobs and fostering sustainable economic development in southern Gabon. Over a 25-year period, the project area will avoid the emission of more than 200 million tons of carbon by preventing unplanned development and the associated deforestation and ecosystem degradation. <\/p>\n

This first high-end lodge has a capacity of 24 beds and aims to become a benchmark for ecotourism in equatorial Africa. The lodge was designed by architects Sylvio Rech and Lesley Carstens, who have overseen the construction of some of Africa's most prestigious safari lodges and have received numerous awards. All the timber and plywood used in its construction came from sustainably managed forest concessions in Gabon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The ACDG Group plans to establish a network of lodges in the country's national parks, although its main development project remains the Grande Mayumba. This project integrates sustainable forestry and wood processing, sustainable agriculture and ecotourism, and includes the development of the necessary related infrastructure. The ACDG Group's first lodge will help position Gabon as a world-class destination for sustainable tourism. Established in 2002, Mayumba National Park was created to protect the marine biodiversity located at the southwestern tip of Gabon. It features beaches, and its coastal vegetation serves as a nesting ground for leatherback turtles.<\/p>\n
