Congo has a diversity of agro-ecological zones suitable for agro-pastoral and fishing activities, a young population and sufficient land resources suitable for the development of several varieties of livestock.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The government has embarked on a veritable crusade to develop cattle, pig, goat, and poultry farming, as well as large-scale fish farming, all pillars of economic growth and diversification. The main challenges facing the livestock sector in Congo are those related to production and the high cost of livestock feed.<\/p>\n

In terms of infrastructure to support agro-pastoral and fisheries production, significant activities have been carried out with the support of the country's technical and financial partners. These include the rehabilitation and maintenance of agricultural roads; the construction of ponds for the benefit of the population; the commissioning of the fish feed production unit in Etoumbi, in the Cuvette-Ouest department; the construction and equipment of a community fishing center, equipped with a refrigeration complex, in Okomb\u00e9 in the N'Tokou district; and the continuation of construction work on the improved landing point of Yoro in Brazzaville, with the support of the Kingdom of Morocco. In order to safeguard the health viability of livestock, a source of safe and essential protein for the population, an essential vaccination program has been implemented.<\/p>\n

FAO's Strategic Framework 2022-2031 defines its future action through the transformation towards more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agri-food systems for better nutrition, a better environment and better living conditions. The signing of the projects entitled "Contribution to the organic agriculture extension program through the Farmer Field School (FFS) approach" and "Support for technical capacity building in fish farming in tanks and floating cages" in Congo is part of the search for sustainable solutions to the problem of food and nutrition. The respective budgets of these two projects are US$225,000 and US$286,000.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
