The sub-regional bank anticipates a revitalization of activity in the sector thanks to the 10,000 social housing construction program, which is nearing completion. Indeed, Cameroon launched a government program in 2009 to build 10,000 social housing units across the country, coupled with the development of 50,000 building plots, including a pilot phase of 1,675 units. The project has already resulted in nearly 2,000 units being built in the cities of Yaound\u00e9, Douala, Bafoussam, Limbe, Bamenda, and Sangm\u00e9lima.<\/p>\n

Two loans were signed in March 2017 for this gigantic real estate project totaling just over 115 billion FCFA between the State of Cameroon and the Italian bank Itensa Sanpaolo. <\/p>\n

In Phase I of this project, the Cameroon Real Estate Company (SIC) and the Italian firm Pizarotti are constructing 1,224 housing units, including 224 social housing units. The project also includes the construction of basic community facilities and the development of roads and various utility networks. This phase of the project will be implemented on a 16-hectare site. A significant stock of materials, machinery, and equipment has also been acquired for the establishment and operation of the industrial base for housing production. This industrial base, which will boost socioeconomic and industrial activity by creating a value chain driven by the establishment of SMEs and SMIs, will cover 59 hectares. SIC assures that the industrial base's annual production capacity is at least 1,000 housing units and will be operational for a period of 40 to 50 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the second phase of the project, scheduled for completion in 2026, plans include the construction of 9,000 housing units in Zouatoupsi and Nkolntsam, in the Mbankomo district, also in the Central Region. The SIC-Pizarotti project is expected to significantly increase the supply of public housing in the country. Since the end of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which saw the completion of numerous construction and infrastructure rehabilitation projects across Cameroon, activity in the construction and public works sector had slowed. However, recent analyses reveal that the construction and public works sector in Cameroon is projected to experience average annual growth of 7.41 trillion TEUs until 2028. This positive trend makes Cameroon the most dynamic market in the construction and public works sector in Central and West Africa.<\/p>\n
