Two new hydroelectric dams at Morala and Nyanga in the south of the country will be built through a public-private partnership (PPP) signed in May 2022 by the government with a consortium of two private companies. These two new hydroelectric dams will have a combined capacity of 331 megawatts. The government cites as the reason for this decision the contractor&#039;s desire to carry out the project under an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model, rather than the BOT model initially agreed upon by the parties. A major integration project in the CEMAC zone (Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Chad, Central African Republic, and Equatorial Guinea), the Chollet hydroelectric dam was to be built on the Dja River, which forms the river border between Cameroon and Congo. The commissioning of this energy infrastructure was intended to address the energy deficit of these two countries, as well as those of neighboring countries such as the Central African Republic and Gabon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Studies for the construction of the Sounda dam, which will be able to generate up to 1000 MW, have begun.
