Road infrastructure is a key economic factor in the national development strategy. The Greater Libreville road rehabilitation project is part of the Acceleration and Transformation Plan (PAT). Gabon has allocated 75 million CFA francs (14,000 TEUs) for the construction of new road sections in Greater Libreville and other cities across the country. These projects will be completed by August 2023. Currently, only 20,000 km of the road network, estimated at nearly 10,000 km, is in good condition, meaning only 2,000 km of roads are usable in Gabon. This network should be expanded to around 5,000 km to improve the logistical capacity of economic operators.<\/p>\n

To achieve this, Gabon created the National Autonomous Road Maintenance Fund (Faner), whose mission is to establish a reliable and sustainable financing mechanism, guaranteeing the immediate availability of resources and the prompt and regular payment of companies involved in road maintenance. It will manage the resources and execute expenditures related to the maintenance of the national road network. Another priority is the massive Trans-Gabon Highway project, planned to traverse six of Gabon's nine provinces over 828 kilometers, which is expected to be completed in 2023. Currently, several road construction and rehabilitation projects are underway.<\/p>\n

These projects will strengthen the existing road network. The dynamism of the construction and public works sector is undeniable in terms of job creation, economic growth, and the transformation of a country. The Gabonese government intends to pursue its infrastructure development program, particularly for roads, including the improvement of the Oyem-Mongomo and Makokou-M\u00e9kambo-Ekata roads, as well as the construction of toll plazas and weigh stations on various national highways. The other major project is the eastern bypass, which is expected to connect the municipalities of Ntoum and Akanda, bypassing Libreville.<\/p>\n
