In his societal project, "Together, let's continue the journey," the President of the Republic, Denis Sassou Nguesso, emphasized the provision of drinking water accessible to all households. Investments made by the State, with the support of development partners, are directed towards the development of a number of programs designed to guarantee the sustainability of this resource for the benefit of future generations.<\/p>\n

Access to drinking water is a health and social problem within Brazzaville itself. <\/p>\n

Thanks to \u20ac100 million (65.5 billion FCFA) funding from the French Development Agency (AFD), 30,000 connections were made and delivered in June 2023 in twelve peripheral districts of the capital, 580 km of pipelines and 154 km of the Congolese Water Company (LCDE) network were rehabilitated, a remote network management center was created, and the water stations in Djiri and Djou\u00e9 were reinforced, allowing the public service LCDE to improve its service and register new subscribers in these remote districts of Brazzaville.<\/p>\n

Regarding the Djou\u00e9 water treatment plant, work was carried out on units A and B and the water intake area along the riverbank. As for the second plant, the installation of water hammer arresters and the refurbishment of electrical cabinets were also completed by the Project for the Extension to Peripheral Areas and the Strengthening of the Public Drinking Water Service in Brazzaville (PEPS). At the Djiri water storage tanks, equipment was renewed, and new electric pumps were installed. The plants' water production capacity has increased from 900 m\u00b3\/h to a 5000 m\u00b3 reservoir.<\/span><\/p>\n

In February 2023, a financing agreement for the Drinking Water Supply System (DWSS) project was reached between 3PRS SA and the IFC (World Bank Group). The pumping and drinking water production facilities, with a capacity of 10,950,000 m\u00b3\/year (30,000 m\u00b3\/day), will thus meet the drinking water needs of the population of Pointe-Noire. The project developer, 3PRS SA, also obtained the concession for the city of Dolisie, drawing water from the Loubomo River. The preliminary design studies for the project, based on the Aquabloc concept (drinking water production capacity of 15,000 m\u00b3\/day), have been validated.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Congo is among the countries with abundant and plentiful water resources, with approximately 1522 m3 of water per year.<\/p>\n
