Lom\u00e9 Airport was ranked the second-best airport for passenger traffic in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) in 2020 by the African Airlines Association (AFRAA). The performance of Lom\u00e9 Gnassingb\u00e9 Eyad\u00e9ma International Airport (AIGE) justifies the major reforms undertaken in recent years to make the country a regional hub, through the expansion of passenger and cargo capacity, notably with the construction of a new terminal building. Indeed, since its rehabilitation in 2016, the three-level Lom\u00e9 International Airport, covering an area of 21,000 m\u00b2 and equipped with five jet bridges, offers a handling capacity of 2 million passengers per year. The objective is to reach 2.5 million by 2030.<\/p>\n

The Lom\u00e9 Tokoin Airport Company (SALT) has been responsible for the management, operation, and development of Gnassingb\u00e9 Eyad\u00e9ma International Airport and Niamtougou International Airport since 1986. SALT is a mixed-economy company with an industrial and commercial focus, with capital divided between the Togolese State (651,300 shares) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Togo (351,300 shares).<\/p>\n

Niamtougou International Airport was commissioned in 1981, and the terminal building was inaugurated in January 1997. Its modernization addresses a genuine need of the local population and aligns with the strategy of regional development hubs. Thanks to the ongoing work, this airport will eventually be able to accommodate wide-body aircraft under optimal conditions of safety and profitability. This will foster the growth of tourism and the hotel industry in northern Togo. Due to its central location relative to the region's main airports (Cotonou, Lom\u00e9, Accra, Abidjan, Ouagadougou, and Niamey), Niamtougou International Airport can serve as a diversion hub for airlines and will allow for the development of new commercial activities such as passenger transport, freight, aircraft maintenance, and the training of basic and support aviation personnel. From now on, Togo will be able to export its agricultural products from this new base and thus invest in the sector. Furthermore, an aircraft maintenance training center should be created.<\/span><\/p>\n

To aspire to "emerging country" status by 2030, Togo is focusing on numerous sectors, including air transport. With a projected growth of 81.3 TWh according to the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC), Togo is making every effort to comply with international safety and security standards. This has allowed it to achieve good performance indicators (78.841 TWh compliance rate for safety and 85.771 TWh for security) in recent audits by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), placing it among the safest airports on the continent. Togo holds several certifications and accreditations, including Category 1 airport status from the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).<\/p>\n
