The rebar processing sector is thriving in Togo and has gained a new player. ManuMetal SarlU, a factory specializing in recycling, is now located in Davié in the Zio Prefecture. With an estimated investment of 2 billion CFA francs, the factory, which began operations in January 2020, employs 200 people, including 150 Togolese.

The industrial unit produces rebar, metal pipes, welding electrodes, grinding balls and other metal products, based on local raw materials such as iron scrap or scrap metal, silico manganese, ferro silicon, aluminum ingots, among others.

The quantities to be produced during the first five years should follow an evolution of 5% each year, given the policy of progressive market penetration. The objective is to sell on the local market 70 to 80TP3T of the finished product.

ManuMetal joins Steel Cube Togo (SCT), located in the north of the country, which has already exported more than 20,000 tons of FE 500 grade rebar since its commissioning in 2019. The plant, located in Kara, claims to have created 450 direct jobs and, above all, the use of raw materials from the surrounding communities. It aims to increase the number of jobs to 1,000, with expansion work on the plant planned, as well as a diversification of activities.
