Several actions are being undertaken to enable the short-term development of the various proven deposits and to allow Togo to capitalize on the current situation through the promotion of artisanal mining and the adoption of a new Mining Code. Mining sector development strategies must also integrate aspects related to post-mining management and the socio-economic development of surrounding communities to ensure the sector's sustainability.
Togo possesses deposits of metalliferous ores, precious stones, and radioactive minerals, including chromite, manganese, and bauxite. Other significant mineral occurrences also exist, such as diamonds and alluvial gold mined by artisanal miners; mono- and polymetallic mineralizations: zinc, lead, copper, silver, arsenic, nickel, etc.; platinum group metals, rare earth elements, rutile, and ilmenite; and radioactive minerals: autunite, uranium, and thorium. Phosphate, limestone, crystalline dolomite, and construction materials constitute the bulk of the mineral products extracted in the country.

The mining sector is characterized by the historically dominant presence of the public sector in phosphate mining. However, increasing private sector investment is leading to greater diversification of this sector, resulting in the exploitation of other types of mineral resources. Indeed, limestone, iron, and dolomitic marble now represent a significant share of the national GDP and export earnings.
According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, in April 2020, there were 73 mining titles held by 67 companies. However, the contribution of the mining and extractive industries sector to the state budget remains low.
It should be noted that Togo has made significant progress in implementing the EITI Standard (Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative). The EITI aims to strengthen government systems by enhancing public and corporate governance.
