Clinker, an essential component of artificial cement, has become Togo's leading export product since 2005, ahead of phosphates and far ahead of other minerals in production. As a raw material in cement production, the increase in clinker production has also been driving up the production of cement in recent years, which Togo exports along with clinker.
Togo has a significant clinker deposit in the prefectures of Vo and mainly in Yoto where three cement production plants are located.

The West African Coast Cement Plant (CimCo), a subsidiary of the Cim Metal Group, opened in late 2021. It is located in the port area. Financed to the tune of 65 billion FCFA, including 20 billion from BOAD in the form of a loan, the plant will have an estimated annual production capacity of 2.5 million tons of cement. The project aims to create 1,000 direct jobs and 500 indirect jobs. With its establishment, CimCo enters a Togolese market long dominated by CimTogo, a Togolese company belonging to the German group Heidelberg Cement, followed by Wacem. The Sika-condji industrial complex (Tabligbo), financed in 2013 by the German group Heidelberg Cement for $254 million with IFC support, includes a clinker mining and production site. In total, the Heidelberg Cement Group has one plant in Lomé (CIMTOGO), another in Sika-Kondji (ScanTogo), and a third in Awandjelo. Meanwhile, the Dangote Industries Limited Group has also signed an agreement to produce cement at a new cement plant with an annual capacity of 1.5 million tonnes.
