These interconnections are the realization of an ambitious project of the heads of state of Central Africa to interconnect all the capitals of the sub-region by optical fiber, making it possible at the same time to link all the cities crossed by this infrastructure and thus accelerate regional integration.
In Gabon, the deployment of fiber optics financed by the World Bank and other donors has injected $26 million into the ACE cable, increasing its international capacity while ensuring better connectivity security. Thus, Gabon Telecom's SAT 3 cable and the ACE cable deployed by the Société de patrimoine et des infrastructures numériques (SPIN) ensure continuity of the Internet connection thanks to mutual security in the event of damage to one of the cables.

At the national level, the Gabonese government has, on the one hand, undertaken, in partnership with private operators, the construction of a submarine cable, linking Libreville – Port-Gentil with a length of 200 km, on the other hand, within the framework of the CAB 4 project in partnership with the World Bank, the deployment of 1,628 km of optical fiber currently operational.
The CAB 4 project, the backbone of Gabonese ambition, was launched in 2010 with financial support from the African Development Bank and the World Bank.
It reflects the fulfillment of one of the key commitments of the President of the Gabonese Republic, that of providing the population with a world-class digital infrastructure covering the entire national territory and interconnected with neighboring brother countries.
