Reference

Previously, various policies and programs implemented by the State had prioritized the development of agribusiness based on imported raw materials, to the detriment of small-scale farming. Imports currently supply approximately 601,300 metric tons of food consumed in Gabon, while market demand is growing. While the industrialization of the oil palm, rubber, and poultry sectors has experienced consistent double-digit growth over the past decade, much remains to be done in the livestock sector. Substituting imports with local production will reduce food costs and contribute to accelerating the industrialization of the country's priority sectors, as well as creating direct and indirect jobs in the agri-food industry. Among the main agribusiness players is Olam Palm Gabon, one of the largest companies in Gabon's edible oil sector. The Asian multinational OLAM began operations in Gabon in 1999 and is currently developing seven industrial and agro-industrial projects in several joint ventures with the Gabonese Republic.
