With a total area of 267,667 km², 85% of which is covered by forests, and an estimated population of around 2.278 million inhabitants, mainly distributed in the main cities, along the road and river axes, the equitable provision of electronic communications across the territory constitutes a real challenge for the government of Gabon.
The mission's objective was to equip ARCEP with tools enabling it to assess the country's network coverage and then develop a deployment strategy tailored to the various coverage gaps identified. To this end, data was collected from telecommunications operators and various government agencies, then verified and validated through field surveys, before being integrated into a Geographic Information System (GIS) to perform these analyses.
The implementation of the GIS represents a powerful decision-making tool for ARCEP and its institutional and private partners.

Another initiative, in February 2022, was a series of five workshops held in Libreville on the major themes related to the development of the Internet in Gabon, organised by the Internet Society Gabon Chapter (ISOC Gabon), meetings with the participation of many national and international experts with the aim of promoting internet accessibility throughout the national territory.
While the internet now allows many Gabonese to work and communicate, it is not yet accessible to everyone, despite government investments since 2009. To become a leader in connectivity, the entire country needs to be connected. Its development requires the contribution of all stakeholders: the government, businesses, civil society, academia, and research institutions.
Sharing a common vision of an inclusive, open, globally connected, secure, and transparent information society that fosters the socio-economic development of the population, ISOC Gabon intends to collaborate with all components of the country's internet ecosystem. This is essential in a world where digital technology plays a vital role.
In 2018, in partnership with the Gabonese government and the World Bank, SING (Gabon's Digital Incubation Company) was launched. The company provides businesses with support services for digital transformation (consulting and diagnostics, IT solutions, etc.). It operates as a business incubator through its acceleration program, "Innovation 4.0 Cohort," which offers support with financing and implementation, as well as access to mentorship and investors, training, and more.
