In June 2023, the French Development Agency (AFD) announced the relaunch of projects it will finance in the Republic of Congo. 150 billion CFA francs have already been allocated for this purpose. The first project focuses on stormwater drainage in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire, aiming to improve their resilience to the flooding they have experienced in recent years. The Congolese government is heavily committed to completing major infrastructure projects already underway. Indeed, entire neighborhoods lack stormwater drainage systems. The city of Brazzaville, for example, is crossed by natural drainage channels, such as the Tsiémé River and the Madoukou and Mfoa streams. However, no adequate public sanitation system properly manages stormwater runoff. The second project focuses on the resilience of the cities of Owando and Nkayi, the first phase of which is already underway. The work to be carried out involves the rehabilitation and extension of stormwater collection and management systems, as well as the fight against water erosion in these two cities.

The development of the Tsiémé River in the Talangai district of Brazzaville's 6th arrondissement is also among the projects financed by the AFD (French Development Agency). The funds for its implementation, aimed at improving the living conditions of the riverside population, are already available; only Congo's share related to expropriation remains to be paid.

France supports stormwater drainage and sanitation projects in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire, which directly benefit more than 500,000 people. Japan will also contribute to sanitation efforts in

Pointe-Noire with a donation of road equipment equivalent to 830 million FCFA.

Another priority for Congo remains the completion of the sanitation works at the Brazzaville University Hospital Centre, financed under the C2D mechanism of the Congo/France cooperation.

Finally, in response to the unsanitary conditions, the "Brazzaville Without Waste" campaign was launched. This sanitation campaign is being implemented in the capital of Congo by the Circle of Elites in Travel, Tourism and the Environment (CEVTE) and the citizen initiative Good Deeds Days.
