Since the 1990s, organic farming has struggled to gain traction in public policy. However, through its opportunities and constraints, organic farming can contribute to a technological and institutional transformation that will contribute to food security.
Furthermore, the strong demand for certified organic food products on the domestic and international market has given Cameroonian farmers the opportunity to increase their income. Organic farming is therefore experiencing a strong boom. Organic products from Cameroon are exported primarily to the European Union.
Three types of organic agriculture have emerged in Douala and Yaoundé: organic agriculture certified according to international standards, entrepreneurial organic agriculture (self-certification) and "natural" organic agriculture.
Organic farming, driven by German cooperation through GIZ and the Procisa project, green innovation centers for the agri-food sector, is increasingly establishing itself in the agricultural landscape. This represents a real market opportunity for young people.
However, six major challenges must be addressed: access to and availability of seeds, production of organic fertilizers, disease control using natural phytosanitary products, development of therapeutic products in organic farming, structuring of organic product markets and control of production costs.
There are more and more certified organic product brands on the Cameroonian market, as well as organic producers, a sign that the sector is enjoying success.

A Marshall Plan implemented to revive culture and wheat processing
Russia is Cameroon's leading wheat supplier with nearly 300,000 tons, followed by Canada (144,000 tons), France (117,000 tons), and the United States (54,000 tons). In order to reduce this dependence on imports, which increases the trade deficit and leads to the expatriation of approximately 150 billion CFA francs each year, the Cameroonian government, through IRAD, has been experimenting for several years with wheat varieties that can grow in the country, with convincing yields. These experiments took place in the Northwest and Adamaoua regions. It is in the latter region that IRAD decided to launch the first seed fields thanks to funding recently made available by the State.
The Agricultural Research Institute for Development (IRAD) has established seed fields to prepare for the revival of wheat production in the country. Located in the towns of Wakwa, Mbang-Mboum, and Wassande, three fields cover a total area of approximately 50 hectares. The production of quality seeds is the first phase in reviving wheat cultivation in the experimental sites set up as part of the National Project for Structuring and Supporting Producers and Agricultural Extension (PROSAPVA). The second component of this recovery plan will consist of establishing structures that will be able to process the wheat that will be produced locally.
