Thanks to its Mpama Nord mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the mining company Alphamin produced a total of 10,969 tonnes of tin in 2021, representing 41.3 tonnes of global supply. While awaiting the start of production at Mpama Sud, it plans to increase its output to 12,000 tonnes in 2022.
Among the notable mineralization intersections recently made at Mpama South, one can notably mention that of 22.7 m grading 3.12% of tin from a depth of 391.6 m, of which 7.7 m has a grade of 4.73% of tin.

Current estimates indicate that the Mpama South project contains 0.83 million tonnes of indicated resources, grading 2.581 pts³t of tin, and 1.95 million tonnes of inferred resources, grading 2.521 pts³t of tin. A preliminary economic assessment, published in early March, indicated that the deposit has the capacity to produce 7,000 tonnes of contained tin annually. To develop the project, which would significantly increase its production volumes, Alphamin will need to invest an estimated 116 million pts³t of capital.
Despite the underperformance of the prices, the mining company, which shows year-on-year growth of 4%, achieved a cumulative production volume of 6241 tonnes of tin in the first half of 2022. The firm, headquartered in Mauritius, plans to increase production thanks to the start of production at the Mpama Sud mine.
With a tin grade of approximately 4.51 TP3T, North Mpama is the richest tin resource in the world, roughly four times higher than most other active tin mines worldwide. The mine currently supplies all of its sold volumes to the American company Gerald Metals.
