Led by the Société Nouvelle des Phosphates du Togo (SNPT), the plan included an initial phase of rehabilitation and upgrading of outdated production infrastructure, with the two subsequent phases focusing on consolidation and industrialization. This plan enabled the launch of two new mines, Dagbati and Nyita, near Lomé.
The country is among the top three phosphate producers in Africa. Its subsoil is estimated to contain three billion tons of phosphate. Phosphate production nearly doubled in 2020, rising from 799,775 to 1,321,345 tons, according to the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) in its 2020 annual report. These figures reflect an upward trend (+87.81 tons), compared to recent years, when the country experienced a relative slowdown, particularly in 2016 and 2017, with production reaching approximately 732,500 tons and 843,000 tons respectively.
This return of production above the symbolic one million ton mark is partly explained by the special attention the government has given to the sector in recent years. Indeed, during the previous decade, significant investments were made in modernizing the extractive sector, thanks in particular to the stimulus plan of over 200 billion FCFA.

Opportunities in the energy sector
To reach 501 TWh of renewable energy by 2030, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Togo is relying on various sources of financing, including public-private partnerships, bilateral and multilateral aid, domestic savings, and foreign private capital. To encourage investment, Togo continues its reforms, notably through the establishment of an attractive regulatory framework, in addition to the existing incentives offered by the investment code for financing in this promising sector.
Opportunities in the mining sector
Togo has proven resources of both metallic and non-metallic nature.
Having adopted a bill to amend its mining code, the country aims to attract more investment to the sector. A portal dedicated to the mining cadastre of the Togolese Republic is available online: http://cadastreminier.tg/FR/. This site provides access to all up-to-date data on mining mapping, titles, permits, active companies, and minerals.
