Cameroon – All of Africa in one country

Chutes_d'Ekom_Nkam

Located at the crossroads of West and East Africa, and stretching from the Gulf of Guinea to Lake Chad, Cameroon presents a mosaic of landscapes and cultures. However, this strong tourism potential remains largely untapped.

To discover the African continent, the best gateway is undoubtedly Cameroon. Ten regions make up this country, which truly deserves its title as a tourist paradise.

Thanks to the variety of its terrain, climate, fauna, flora, as well as its population and traditions, Cameroon offers several forms of tourism throughout the national territory.

Four tourist zones coexist. The far north, far from the dense equatorial forests, is best suited for safaris. National parks like Waza offer opportunities to observe large animals. The west reveals its charms to hikers who can admire the breathtaking landscape of the famous Mount Cameroon. The south, characterized by forested areas, is the preferred terrain for wildlife enthusiasts. Gorillas and baboons are the most frequently observed primates, and finally, the coast, with its miles of shoreline facing the Gulf of Guinea, is the ideal holiday destination.

With its 400 kilometers of coastline, Cameroon offers beach lovers the chance to spend a dream vacation on natural beaches surrounded by a picturesque landscape of bays, islets, and mangroves. The magnificent Kribi Falls plunge directly into the Atlantic Ocean.

Cameroon boasts several national parks, the most famous and best-maintained being Waza National Park, located in the Far North. These parks, along with the numerous reserves found mainly in the southern part of the country, are home to almost all of Africa's wildlife (elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, antelopes, hippos, hyenas, gorillas, topi, cheetahs, etc.). Hunting areas, open from December to May, are established around some national parks.

The integration of environmental concerns into tourism development projects has led to the classification and protection of certain natural sites for scientific, ecological and tourism purposes, including:
– Korup National Park, which contains plant species millions of years old; ;
– The Dja reserve, classified as a world heritage site by UNESCO; ;
– Mount Cameroon, 4070 meters high; ;
– The Mayo Rey sites bearing fossilized dinosaur footprints; ;
– The botanical garden of Limbe.

The Cameroonian hotel industry has experienced significant growth in recent years, driven in particular by the prospect of hosting two major continental sporting events. Between 2014 and 2018, the amount invested in the construction, renovation, or equipping of hotel establishments increased by 31 million TEUs, reaching nearly €170 million in 2018. These investments were primarily made by local public and private stakeholders.
