With the aim of accelerating the modernization of its secondary airports, from January 2019, ADEMA (Aéroports de Madagascar), manager of 10 main airports and 44 secondary airfields in Madagascar, signed a first wave of contracts for the management of the airfields of Antalaha awarded to Harold Aéroport, Vohémar to Floribis, Mananara-nord to the Spice Oil group, Analalava to the Filatex group), Antsirabe to SEAVA Sarl – CCIV consortium, Manakara to the Filatex group, Maintirano to the Nera BTP group) and Morombe to Aéro Sud-ouest. These seven private companies under Malagasy law will have to ensure the operation and investments necessary for the development of the platforms while applying the recipe for the proper functioning of aerodromes (RBFA) in force since January 10, 2020. These operators are for the most part requesting the opening of routes in these remote areas, for their recurring freight and logistics operations.

At Feramanga Airport, the road connecting the airport to National Route 44 has been paved, and a large 5,000 m² parking lot has been built, a project resulting from collaboration between the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Transport and Tourism. In addition to the rehabilitation of National Route 44, the opening of the Ambatondrazaka airfield will contribute to opening up and developing this district. The airfield will also undergo expansion work to accommodate ATR aircraft in the near future.

Thus, once the investments have been made, ADEMA hopes for a recovery in traffic on these airfields, also contributing to boosting tourism, with the objective set by the Malagasy State of 500,000 tourists by 2023. The goal is the creation of 4 hubs with national and international aims to facilitate access for tourists to the different tourist areas.

In practical terms, the project to build these hubs in Toamasina, Andrakaka, Diego Suarez, Mahajanga, and Tulear will serve as springboards for domestic, regional, and international flights. They will eliminate the need for passengers to travel through Antananarivo or Nosy Be to reach tourist destinations.

ANTANANARIVO-IVATO AIRPORT (CODE NAME TNR)
It is an international airport serving 13 destinations via its international and regional network and 11 destinations via its domestic network. The airport has a runway 3,100 meters long and 45 meters wide, and two terminals.
The new international terminal in Antananarivo features the first 3 jetways in Madagascar and modern infrastructure to accommodate people with reduced mobility, Wi-Fi, doubled check-in counters going from 12 counters in the old terminal to 23 in the new one, innovations in the VIP Lounge, a solar-powered car park, an arboretum with endemic plants of Madagascar, all while ensuring the preservation of the environment.
